An enemy from Angel's past has come to LA, and enlisted three
powerful supernatural creatures to break Angel's spirit before
killing him. In one catastrophic night, Angel has to figure
out who's after him, and then bring them down, in a climatic
battle above the glittering Los Angeles skyline...
Buffy
and Angel creator Joss Whedon told Dark Horse comics
that he wanted to revamp Angel as a unique comic series
and he would write the first story himself. Together with
writing partner from the TV staff, Brett Matthews, they took
on the challenge of creating a more action filled comic, and
writing all the story lines that it would be near to impossible
to show on TV.
Long
Night's Journey is not too bad, but Joss has been known
to write better. But with the medium of comic book, you don't
have that much time or room to tell an in-depth story. This
one tells of a vampire the brooding one met in the past, one
which wants himself to have a soul, so tries to take Angel's.
The best thing about this graphic novel is the artwork, and
the evolution of it. It brings the Angel series back
to life with much more vivid imagery. Characters stand out
more, and you forgive them for their artistic licence as they
look so great. There are also some well-drawn baddies in there,
a gold bikini which some might say has a likeness to that
of Princess Leia's!
Overall
defiantly worth picking up, if you're not an Angel
fan I'm sure you will still like the artwork.
