When Dawn mysteriously appears in Buffy's life, so did a million
memories of them as sisters - impossible memories that can't
be real, because Dawn simply was never there. So who is putting
them in the minds of Buffy and the Scooby Gang? And what the
Hellmouth does any of this have to do with the new crop of
crazed, bloodsucking monks who are skulking about town?...
There
are a number of things that really stand out about False
Memories - and in a good way. Part of the story shows
Buffy trying to deal with these memories planted in her head
- what's real? These are great as you get to see little parts
of the early series' replayed, but this time slightly twisted
as Dawn is somehow involved. These include Buffy being bitten
by the Master, Dawn getting caught by Angelus in the School
and not Willow, all these little things just bring a smile
to your face as you read.
Dawn
however cannot stop being irritating and continues to get
in Buffy's way as she tries to solve the mystery of the vampire
monks. Dawn's snooping leads to finding missing years in the
Watchers books, which Giles quickly dismisses. In time all
is revealed, and there's resolution, but way too quickly.
The story could have been a lot longer, and more involved,
but all in all it's still a classic tale and a must have for
every fans collection.
