A long time ago in our own galaxy comic writers adapted the
original Star
Wars
movie into a comic mini series. They then went on to continue
to print original stories following on from the events of
the movie...
Dark
Encounters is
the second volume in the original Star Wars comics
series. This volume carries on the events after Star Wars:
A New Hope and takes us up to the events just before The
Empire Strikes Back.
Presented
as part of the ongoing Star Wars universe, these long
out-of-print, previously extremely hard to find classics create
new allies as well as introducing completely new threats for
the Republic.
One
of the most notable stories in this volume is What Ever
Happened to Jabba the Hutt? As in the Star Wars: A
New Hope graphic novelisation Jabba had not been seen
on screen before so his appearance looks at odds to his later
appearance in Return of the Jedi. Instead of a bulbous
mass of fat, Jabba is a thin, yellow, whiskered fellow who
looks very nimble on his feet.
The
Jawa Express, in which our heroes are hitching a ride
with everyone's favourite desert rodents, is also a story
worth sinking your teeth into.
A
nice addition to this series is a chronological list of the
entire series of Star Wars graphic novels.
Volume
2 is a great read and will be much appreciated by Star
Wars fans old and young alike.
