Set
on the day of the Californian Presidential elections,
Jack
Bauer of the Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU) must foil an assassination
attempt on presidential candidate Senator David Palmer, and
to rebuild his marriage with his wife Terri. When their daughter
Kimberly sneaks out with her best friend, Terri sets out to
find her. In the meantime, Jack has been framed for the assassination
attempt and flees the CIA agents to find the real perpetrators
led by Ira Gaines. The plot thickens as revelations about
Senator Palmer's family arise and Terri's hunt for Kimberly
gets more dangerous. Jack becomes incapacitated and only has
his mobile phone and the help of his trusted colleague at
CTU Nina Myers to help him...
Season
one of 24 stars Keifer Sutherland as special agent
Jack Bauer in this filmed in real-time drama series.
After
the real life events of 11 September 2001, this drama hits
a little too close to home at times. But with America and
the UK on heightened terrorist alerts a drama revolving around
the CTU may well help to calm the publics fears about any
real life threat.
Sutherland
is perfect as the head of CTU. And this plot has many twist
and turns giving the viewer a heightened sense of paranoia
- we are never really sure who is working for which side.
Every
parent's worst nightmare is also realised as Jack's daughter
is kidnapped in an attempt to get him to switch sides. This
plot development was also meant to wrap the whole production
up when the producers where unsure whether the series would
go the full 24 episodes. So by the half way point the story
is told and it was down to the writers to come up with another
plot which tied in with the first. This they seem to have
managed as well as can be expected.
This
five VHS box set contains all 24 episodes from the series
plus the show's alternate ending and a season two preview.
A
fantastic first season.
