circus comes to town and the ringmaster enslaves the town's
women, a plague of nosebleeds mysteriously strike causing
the army to be drafted in to close the town down and Barbara,
the local transsexual cab driver, is about to get married.

 Series
two of The League of Gentlemen is noticeably darker
than the first series. And this is part of its charm. Along
with old favourites like Tubbs and Edward, Pauline and the
Dentons the writers have included a whole stream of new characters
to ensure longevity. Papa Lazarou and his Pandemonium Carnival,
Herr Lipp and his German exchange students and Pam Doove will
all have you weeping with laughter. Each
episode plays homage to more than a handful of movies (including
Citizen Kane) and every angle is shot with the same
love and care that a period drama would be proud of. The
BBC has commissioned a third series which should begin filming
next year but how they can top this is anyone's guess. Pete
