Lakeshore Records release the original score for The Nice Guys, composed by John Ottman and David Buckley. The movie unfolds in 1970s Los Angeles, when down-on-his-luck private eye Holland March and hired enforcer Jackson Healy become the unlikeliest of partners. Working together, they have to find a missing girl, who seems to have a target on her back. And is her case related to the violent death of porn star Misty Mountain in a car crash? During their investigation, March and Healy begin to uncover a shocking conspiracy that reaches up to the highest circles of power... and just might get them both killed... John Ottman and David Buckley's score for The Nice Guys is a lovingly crafted slice of '70s nostalgia but brought up to date for today's audience. There's elements of John Barry's '60s and '70s work on James Bond as well as other detective/cop movies/TV shows of the period. Ottman (X-Men: Apocalypse; X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Buckley (Gone; The Town) have an impressive background in scores and it would have been interesting to know why the two were brought in to work together on this project and what each of them contributed. The album contains 18 tracks (43 min, 34 sec) and is a light and fluffy affair. It's fun and upbeat and certainly captures what your mind tells you is a '70s score, but without the bad production values or cheesy cliched sounds that were all to popular back then. 8 Darren Rea Buy this item online
