23/05/13 - Julia Holter to release studio album
Domino Records is to release Loud City Song, the new studio recording by Los Angeles based artist Julia Holter, on CD, MP3 and LP on 19 August.
Her first studio album proper, Loud City Song is both a continuation and a furthering of the fiercely singular and focused vision displayed by its predecessors, taking as it does Holter’s rare gift for merging high concept, compositional prowess and experimentation with pop sensibility and applying it to a set of even more daringly beautiful arrangements and emotionally resonant songs.
The songs that make up Loud City Song have origins that pre-date 2011’s debut – coaxed out and finessed as demos in Holter’s bedroom studio and then finally coalesced into one thrillingly cohesive experience in the latter stages of 2012 by Holter and co-producer Cole Marsden Grief-Neill and an ensemble of Los Angeles musicians. The result is an album of enormous ambition – Holter taking inspiration from Collette’s 1944 novella Gigi and using it as a prism through which to explore her relationship with her hometown of Los Angeles and modern life universally, taking cues from the work of Joni Mitchell and the poetry of Frank O’Hara but forging those touch-points into something resolutely unique.

When approached by producer Keith Barnfather about the idea she jumped at the chance. “I shall retire, I think in my coffin! Miss Hawthorne was my all-time favourite role and I was enchanted by the thought of being her again for a little while.”

16/05/13 - I Give it a Year Blu-ray and DVD
StudioCanal is to release I Give it a Year on Blu-ray and DVD on 03 June.
Opening where the standard romantic comedy finishes, I Give it a Year introduces a new leading man in Rafe Spall as Nate, a struggling novelist, as he marries ambitious, highly strung careerist Nat (Rose Byrne) after a whirlwind romance.
The excited new couple seems deliriously in love despite their conflicting traits; Josh is a dreamer, Nat is a doer, Josh is cavalier and shambling, Nat is poised and polished, but the sparks between them undoubtedly fly. So far so ‘happily ever after’. Except, despite the dream coming true, no one – neither family, friends nor even the minister marrying them – believes they can last, and the giddy couple exchange vows to the whispered refrain from the congregation of…”I give It a year.”
As the honeymoon fades and they return to real life, they negotiate the pleasures-and more often pitfalls – of their first few months of marriage, and the question is never far away – have they made the right choice? A question soon personified in the form of Josh’s kooky ex girlfriend Chloe (Anna Faris), and Nat’s handsome new American client Guy (Simon Baker) who maybe offer very attractive alternatives. With their first anniversary just around the corner, neither wants to be the first to give up, but will they make it?
